Connectivity as a territorial demand
In the Vale do Javari, connectivity is not a service offered from the outside in - it is a territorial demand. The Marubo, Matses and Kanamari communities define how, when and what the signal is for. The images below are records of this encounter between technology and Indigenous governance.
Connectivity is sovereignty.
Starlink boxes lined up before the maloca, the equipment arrives, but the decision belongs to the community.
The signal comes from the sky, the voice comes from the land.
The antenna points to the stars; the word remains with the people.
The first page of the internet is an act of presence.

Shared knowledge, strengthened autonomy.
Sustainable development and institutional strengthening read together, in the light of a screen.
Every box is a bridge.
Transporting the equipment is also a gesture of mutual trust.
The meeting comes before the signal.
The boxes wait while the community decides, together, how to use what has arrived.
Unpacking technology is also a collective ritual.
The antenna leaves the box among many hands.
Where the world sees isolation, the community sees home.
The maloca where connectivity arrives, a space of life, decision and memory.
Connectivity is not arrival. It is encounter.
The equipment stands beside those who receive it, the face before the antenna.
To record is to resist.
The phone films what has always existed, now the world can see it too.
Technology serves the assembly, not the other way around.
The full maloca is the true signal, the gathered community decides the path.
Presence is the first protocol.
Before any network, the human network that sustains the territory already exists.
The voice that the signal now carries.
In the maloca, the meeting precedes the technology, the community speaks before the network listens.
