Why it matters
The first indigenous territory ever demarcated in Brazil (1961). A living mosaic of 16 ethnic groups.
Challenges
Agricultural frontier pressure, fire, deforestation of surrounding buffer zones and invasions.
Our role
Current step is dialogue and a participatory diagnosis with local leaderships. Any investment is conditional on building a relationship and a mandate.
Priority project
The Xingu Territorial Monitoring Group carries out essential work protecting the territory's borders against invasions, deforestation and other environmental threats. This initiative aims to strengthen their operations with GPS units, trail cameras, drones and field communication equipment.
