Why it matters
The largest indigenous territory in Brazil. A territory with an open petition against mercury contamination linked to illegal mining.
Challenges
Mercury contamination linked to illegal mining (garimpo), health crises, territorial invasion and a critical humanitarian situation on the Venezuela-Brazil border.
Our role
The latest request from the president of Urihi was for 44 connection points in the communities of that critical border zone. 4rest4all supports the Urihi Yanomami Association in connecting these 44 points, enabling communication for territorial protection and the safety of the communities.
Priority project
"We, the Yanomami, live far from everything. When a child falls ill in a remote village, when miners invade our land, when we need to speak to the world, we are alone. We ask for connection with our most distant points, so that no village is left without a voice, and so that help can reach where the river takes days to reach.", Waihiri Hekurari Yanomami
